Tell me something. Is limp, lifeless steering just a problem my dad’s Dakota and this have, or is it a Mopar thing? And dear god the blind spots.

ill go ahead and assume its powersteered up the wazoo and blame it on that
based on no evidence whatsoever
(well.. maybe based a little bit on my old voyager wich was somewhat lacking in steering feel.... more than made up for it in comfort tho)

I drove a newish Journey once. The steering wasn't amazing but I wouldn't classify it as as bad as you're describing.

The steering in the PT Cruiser I used to have felt fine.

The steering in my Charger seems ok rather heavyish acuallly. Granted it's got the performance pack which changed around some suspension and drivetrain bits so it may not be indicative of all but it's better than the numb soulless abomination that is my wife's GMC Acadia

What year is the Dakota?

The steering in my mom’s 100k mile Dakota wasn’t that bad, her brand new ‘08 Sebring lemon
definitely
was. Her 200 and Avenger after that
weren’t near
as bad though. Probably the trim level and level of assist the power steering gives. Maybe it was tweaked for later years or different trims.

Third Gen which was heavily cost cut
by Daimler, same as the Avenger so maybe it’s a Greedy Mercedes trait but I wouldn’t know how these compare to other cars, as I h
aven’t driven these.

That might explain how much time it’s spent in the shop.
